Sending images as separate email attachments works right up until someone forwards the invoice to accounts without them. The invoice then travels alone, and the evidence for the most expensive line on it is sitting in an inbox nobody in finance can see.

Attaching the image to the line item itself keeps proof and price together permanently. The exported PDF is a single self-contained document: description, quantity, rate, and the photograph that justifies it.

This matters most where the work is hidden or already undone — a pipe behind a wall, a cleared site, a repaired component that now looks identical to an undamaged one.

A good invoice photo answers one question: does this line item describe real work? It does not need to be beautiful, but it does need to be legible at PDF size.

Shoot in daylight or with a flash, get close enough that the detail fills the frame, and include one wider shot for context when location matters. If you are showing a before-and-after pair, take both from the same position — a comparison from two different angles proves nothing.

Images you attach are held in your browser while you work on the invoice and are embedded into the PDF you export. They are not uploaded to a server, and nobody else can see the draft you have open.

The practical consequence is that clearing your browser data, switching browsers or using a private window will remove drafts and their attachments. Export the finished PDF and keep your own copy — that file is the permanent record, not the draft in the browser.

Before and after images are shot from the same position so the client can compare them directly in the PDF.
